Sunflower Cake

HTML tutorial

Another gut bomb! So so many calories!
It’s possible that I’m chosing this kind of cakes in particular for one good reason – I’m really trying to put on weight a bit… Where are my lost kilograms? Need to find them :) So maybe… it’s about some subconcious choices? No idea ;)

The cake itself is like a big wow! Especially this sunflower cream… Mhmm… Let them say it’s like 8000 calories… The taste makes up for everything! Even these silly calories seem more friendly ;)
To tell you, after making Cuckoo Cake, I was sure it would be double difficult to find a cake that would be equally good… Seems I was lucky :)
Of course, that’s a different category of a yummy but both are highly addictive :)

So so, Sunflower Cake is quite sweet, yet not too sweet. Additionally, I would say you may feel quite full after eating one piece of it… All in all, this cake is a sweet crime :)

Not sure what your way of measuring deliciousness is but for me it was pure pleasure to see my mum having a bite, rolling her eyes and… mhmmmmmm-ing :)

And I almost forgot… To all my teacher friends, do not lose this passion that’s in you. Love your students and you’ll see how much they can offer in return :)
Warm hugs and have a nice celebration :)

Sponge Ingredients (form 35x25cm):

  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 Tbs cocoa
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 cup baking sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Line only the bottom of the form with bakery paper.

Firstly, boil the first half of the ingredients, that is oil, water, sugar and cocoa, still stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
Chill fully.

Sift flour with baking powder and soda.
Leave aside.

Whip the whites, gradually adding sugar at the end of whipping.
Start adding yolks, one by one. Mix constantly till you get nice creamy mass.

Add chilled cocoa mixture and mix it in.

Add dry ingredients and stir them in really subtly.

Pour the mass into the form. Smoothen.

Bake at 180°C for about 40-45 minutes.

Once it’s chilled, divide the cake into two.

Sweet and Crispy Sunflower Seeds:

  • 250g sunflower seeds
  • 70g butter
  • 8 Tbs sugar
  • 4 Tbs milk

Mix and boil all the ingredients in a pan.

Line the form with a bakery paper.
Lay the warm mass onto the paper. Smoothen.

Once it’s baked, leave for a moment for chilling.
Then, break into smaller pieces.
You can leave it on a kitchen towel to get rid of some extra fat :)

  • 600g dulce de leche
  • sweet and crispy sunflower seeeds

Mix the butter with dulce de leche till it’s combined.
Add sunflower seeds and mix all.

Making the cake:

Cover it with the second sponge.
Lay the rest of the cream. Smoothen.

You can decorate it with melted dark chocolate :)

Stolen from Moje Wypieki :)

*I made my cake from a half of the ingredients given and still it was quite a big cake :)
